Berberine hydrochloride raw material is extracted from the leaves, bark, and roots of Coptis chinensis and Phellodendron amurense. It is a yellow needle-like crystal.

It inhibits Shigella, Escherichia coli, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus, Salmonella typhi, and Entamoeba histolytica. Clinically, it is mainly used for intestinal infections and bacillary dysentery. Recently, it has also been found to have an anti-arrhythmic effect. Berberine has antibacterial effects on hemolytic streptococcus, Staphylococcus aureus, gonococcus, and Shigella dysenteriae, and enhances phagocytosis of leukocytes. Berberine hydrochloride (commonly known as berberine hydrochloride) has been widely used to treat gastroenteritis, bacterial dysentery, etc., and also has a certain effect on pulmonary tuberculosis, scarlet fever, acute tonsillitis, and respiratory infections
